Col. Jason W. Schultz

Col. Jason W. Schultz assumed command of the U.S. Army Watervliet Arsenal on July 25, 2024. Prior to his command at Watervliet Arsenal, COL Schultz was the Chief of Plans (TCJ5-G) at the United States Transportation Command.

Col. Schultz's career in the U.S. Army began in 1994 when he enlisted as an Aviation Operations Specialist in the United States Army Reserve. He was commissioned as an Ordnance Officer in 1999 through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Following graduation from the Ordnance Officer’s Basic Course in 2000, Col. Schultz was assigned as Direct Support Platoon Leader of B Co., 603rd Aviation Support Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division, Hunter Army Airfield, GA. During his time in the 603rd Aviation Support Battalion, he served as the Cavalry Systems Support Platoon Leader for 3rd Squadron, 7th Cavalry, Shop Officer for B Co., and Battalion Maintenance Officer. During a break in service where he participated in the Store Leadership Program for The Home Depot, culminating as a Store Manager in Alabama, he served in various roles in the United States Army Reserve from 2004 - 2007. These include an assignment as an intelligence officer in the G2 of the 81st RRC, and Battalion Maintenance Officer and Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment Commander for the 828th Transportation Battalion. Col. Schultz reentered active duty in 2007. Following completion of the Combined Logistics Captain’s Career Course, he was assigned to Fort Drum, NY where he became the Forward Support Company Commander for the 7th Engineer Battalion, 20th Engineer Brigade in 2008. In 2010, Col. Schultz served as the Deputy S3 for the 10th Sustainment Brigade, 10th Mountain Division in Fort Drum, NY. He then served as the Support Operations Officer and Executive Officer for the 548th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade at Fort Drum from 2011 – 2013. Col. Schultz next served within the S3 for 8th ROTC Brigade, U.S. Army Cadet Command located at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA until May 2015. Following his graduation from the School of Advanced Military Studies, Col. Schultz was Chief of Future Plans, CJ4, at Resolute Support Headquarters in Kabul Afghanistan from June 2016 until March 2017. In 2019, Col. Schultz returned to Fort Drum, NY to assume command as Battalion Commander of the 548th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 10th Mountain Division.

Col. Schultz deployed several times during the Global War on Terror including Operation Iraqi Freedom from January 2003 through April 2003, August 2005 through July 2006 and again June 2009 through April 2010; Operation Enduring Freedom from March 2012 through January 2013; and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel from June 2016 through March 2016.

His military education includes graduation as an Honor Graduate from the Ordnance Officer’s Basic Course in 2000 and as a Distinguished Honor Graduate from the Combined Logistics Officer’s Captain’s Career Course in 2008. He also completed the Command and General Staff Officer Course in 2014 and was listed on the Director's List at the Advanced Military Studies Program, School of Advanced Military Studies in 2016.

Col. Schultz holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1999, a Master of Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2004, a Master of Professional Studies in Supply Chain Management from Pennsylvania State University in 2013, a Master of Military Art and Science from the School of Advanced Military Studies, Command and General Staff College in 2016, and Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science from Brown University in 2018 and 2022, respectively. During his time at Brown, he was a fellow in the U.S. Army Advanced Strategic Policy and Planning Program (ASP3). Col. Schultz is also a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Demonstrated Master Logistician (SOLE – The International Society of Logistics), Certified in Transportation and Logistics (AST&L), and Professional Designation in Supply Chain Management and Logistics (AST&L).

His awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Bronze Star (three Oak Leaf Clusters), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (four Oak Leaf Clusters), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (with “M” Device), NATO Meritorious Service Medal, NATO Medal, and the Combat Action Badge.
